Cliff Lake Outpost camp view
The 3rd of our properties, The Outpost Camp is located far off the beaten path down a scenic gravel wilderness road or by boat, getting there is part of the adventure. Once you’re there and surrounded by tall pines and birches and see the well spaced log cabins you’ll feel the connection to the way it was back when the camp was originally built in the mid 1920’s. Back then the only way in was 30 plus miles by boat through numerous lakes and portages, or by horse and sled over frozen lakes in the winter. Today those original hand crafted log cabins still exist.

Because of its remote location the Outpost camp is “off the grid”. Solar power with a quite backup generator now provides adequate 24/7 power for all the systems refrigerators and lighting. Outlets are provided for charging cameras, cell phones, or other small items but no hair dryers, crockpots, fryers and the like please.

Moose Horn Cabins

The first 3 of the 9 total cabins you encounter entering the camp by road have been totally and skillfully restored and updated with full baths, modern appliances and new but rustic furnishings, lighting, doors and windows. What’s still original, but refinished, are the beautiful log walls and ceilings. Because each of them have a set of local moose antlers over the door; we call these the Moose Horn cabins.

Two of the Moose Horn cabins are quite large with two separated bedrooms that can sleep up to 7 with 3 sets of bunks, 1 is a combo – full bed on the bottom. These larger cabins are also equipped with wood burning stoves for heat and a deck facing the lake. The 3rd cabin is, as it originally was, an open plan but now with an enclosed bath. Also with a deck and 1 combo bunk set it is perfect for 2, or a couple plus 1.

All the Moose Horn Cabins have dinnerware and utensils, the bed linens are provided. You’ll make your coffee in a stove top percolator and make toast stovetop also. Surrounded by mature trees, lots of uncluttered space, and miles from civilization – you won’t be disappointed staying in any of these wonderfully restored, unique cabins.

Original Outpost Cabins

Just past the Moose Horn Cabins and around a bend is the Original Outpost Camp with 6 cabins and the original Lodge. All of these are the original 1920,s one room hand crafted log buildings updated and maintained here and there through the years, yet they maintain the historical ambiance reflecting a much simpler life and self-reliance. Somewhere during its history a central sanitary facility was constructed providing modern showers and toilets replacing the original outhouses – no showers or toilets are in these 6 cabins. Bedding is not provided for these cabins so bring sleeping bags.

Four of these cabins are fully equipped 1-room cabins each with 4 beds – 2 bunks, 1 is a combo – Each of these is equipped with a stove, refrigerator, sink, dinnerware, cooking utensils, wood stoves for heat and an outside BBQ grill.

Two of the 6 cabins are smaller sleeping only cabins perfect for larger groups.
